So Close

Yesterday was a long eventful day.
I kept myself so busy..the time went by quickly.
I had my midterm clinical evaluation and I'm right on point with where I should be. I just need to work on getting more comfortable with my communication skills. It's the weirdest thing. I can be myself (all funny and whatnot...witty too) and the second I walk into a patient's room...BAM...I become this quiet girl. You only wish you had that power when I'm annoying you and won't shut up.
A huge chunk of time was spent gathering all the right stuff for my Plan of Care Assignment that is due the week after next.
I might work on it on the plane ride tomorrow. I'm also bringing my Adult Health stuff to go over. We've got our second exam next Friday.

Student Nurse Rachel at your service!

I had originally planned on going to the concert in the Duke Gardens last night. They hold concerts there every Wednesday night during the summer. After I had dinner, it was an hour past the start time. I was also wiped out. I'm making it a personal mission to get there next Wednesday.

I finished up the Pharm quiz that is due next week. Then I stayed up too late watching the new Locked Up Abroad episode.

Thursday mornings kind of feel like "sleeping in". Getting up at 7:05 is a lot easier than 5:30 =)

During lunch today, some people came in and cleaned the projector in the classroom.
This guy had the longest hair I had ever seen...on a man or woman

Time seemed to sit still after 3:30.
Once I got out of class around 7, I rushed home and began to pack.
I just finished up.
I'm Houston bound tomorrow after class!
woowoo

"Summer Break" is so close I can taste it.

The Good Life

I was up late last night and found a free app on my phone to age your face.
I hope life is kinder to me.

I wait for the day for my vision to go downhill.

Anyways... I got up and laid outside.
I caught up some of the little sun there was today.

I realized I was out of deodorant and just HAD to make a trip to Target. I just needed an excuse to go up there and look at some clothes. I found a cute shirt that I'll wear sometime this weekend.
I finally got Chelsie's wedding invite in the mail. I say finally because my parents received their invite several days ago. I guess I'm just SO FAR out here in NC that it takes forever to get anything.

I had subway for lunch again =)

It was time for a walk and wouldn't you guess it....it started pouring right when I walked out of the door. I needed to make it to the dumpster to dump some trash...by the time I was there, the rain had stopped.
I decided to walk up and down my street to not go too far.

It started thundering and got really dark. I decided a mile was good enough and went back in.

Stesha wanted to go to dinner. I agreed as long as we had mongolian.
We made it there...barely.
It was a downpour..!!
We could barely see anything and the roads were already flooding.

It's 3 hours later...and it is still raining cats and dogs out there.

I just read some hematology stuff.
It is 3 minutes past my bedtime.
Night

Shopping

The first thing on my to-do list this morning was to go shopping.
I thought I would try to find a couple of new shirts for my summer break next weekend.
I found 2 shirts...we'll see if I keep them or not.

I was in line about to check out and found this cute canteen:

Snoopy
I couldn't help myself and bought it.

While I was there, I saw this shirt.
They were on sale for 6.99 and I wish they had Lance's size. =(

The next stop was the grocery (store).
I got a couple of things to hold me over for the next 3 days.
I stopped by Subway on the way home.

After I wolfed that down, I went for a walk.
It was really hot and sunny.
20 minutes in....it started to pour on me.
I walked the next 30 minutes in the rain.
The nice part was that the weather cooled down.

I did get some oncology reading done for Adult Health. I'm slowly getting back in the groove. I'm going to spend the majority of tomorrow finishing up some hematology reading and then get on to some mental health reading.

Tacos, burritos, and cookies

After I slept just about all day...okay okay...I got up at 1:00.
I made breakfast and got my tan on for an hour again.
I called Stesha and we worked on our community health assignment. We are doing a community survey...and we chose Chapel Hill. We mainly filled in population information today.
We took a break and had a meal at a new place.
We got in the car and just drove around until something looked good.
I give you Toreros:

One look at the menu and I was excited.
The chips and salsa were very tasty.

We also got a 15% discount because we are Duke students.
I ordered a Granda...which is a combo where you pick two things.
I went with a taco and a burrito.
This is how I ordered it:
"I would like the Grande with a taco...no tomatoes. AND a burrito...bean and cheese only. Oh, can I also have a little queso on the side."
This is what I got:

A taco...with tomatoes...and there was no meat...it had cheese, lettuce, and beans.
My burrito had some kind of sauce on it that was not queso.
I was frustrated, but let it go.
I picked off the tomatoes...but I couldn't get over the sauce on my burrito.

The portions are pretty amazing though.

I just wish I had gotten what I ordered.

We came back and got part of next week's assignment for community health done. I won't be here a big chunk of next week...so it was best to do it today.

Once she left, I went for a walk.

I found more roadkill.
Poor thumper =(

I was in the mood to make something.
I've had the ingredients (all of two things) for some cookies I like for 2 months.
I finally got around to making them.

They are healthy and boring...but here they are.

I heat up a package of white nestle chips.
I microwave them around 30 seconds of a time to where they are liquidy enough to stir together and there are no more chips.

Then you mix in one bag of fiber one cereal.

Then I use a 1/3 cup to scoop them up and place them on a pan covered with wax paper.
Place them in the fridge until they are hardened.

There you go!

True Blood season 4 premiered tonight and I am a happy girl.
It was a double one. Two episodes back to back.

I'm off!

Ketchup

Hmmm
Thursday...Thursday.
I knew I should have updated this sooner. I tend to forget what has happened.
I went to class and learned about opiates in Pharmacology.
After a short lunch, I took my first mental health exam.
It was not as bad as I thought it was going to be. It has been 2 days and I still don't have my grade. I keep checking online...
By 3:30 it was time for Health Promotion. I was struggling. I had to get out of there. I only made it an hour into the class before I packed up and headed out the door.
I went straight home and crawled into bed.
I had a long chat with my boyfriend on the phone. He got an internship and I couldn't wait to hear all about it. Can you believe I get to see him in 6 short days? I cannot wait!
I watched a scary movie on netflix and went to sleep.

My brain is officially shut off until after summer break.
Yes, I have studying I need to do. BUT, I am not pressured in any way.
No exams for 2 weeks =)

I woke up Friday and went to school.
We covered the rest of the GI issues and the musculoskeletal system.
After class, Stehsa and I met up with Erika to see Bad Teacher at the Briar Creek movie theater.
I give the movie a 6/10, but I was very tired. If I had been more awake, I might have enjoyed it better.
We walked over to a pizza place for dinner.

it was delicious

The sunset on the way home was amazing.

I slept until noon this morning and made breakfast.
I laid outside in the sun for about an hour. I brought out some Adult Health material to read, but I never actually did. I chose to listen to music instead.
This girl is in vacation mode.

I followed my tan session up with a walk outside.

I took the trail route...and that was a dumb mistake.
It is overgrown and I hope I didn't get poison ivy or chiggers.

When I arrived home I noticed I had a new buddy on my sliding door.

I had hotdogs for dinner.

I don't know what it is, but I feel kind of run down. I've had a headache all day =(
I've been in bed watching documentaries.
I need to get some cleaning done tomorrow and get to the grocery store.

Busy day, but pretty great.
I'm getting the hang of things.

Random pictures:

lunch

we had a meeting to learn more about diabetes and patient teaching at 5:30
I grabbed a chai tea latte
mmm

Once I got out 13 hours later, I went over to Stesha's to lay by the pool and study for Mental Health.
I'm not really sure how this test is going to go.
All I know is I'm ready to fall asleep watching Locked Up Abroad.

Trapped in a Haze

I slept in till noon and made breakfast.

I looked outside and it was nice and sunny.
I also noticed a giant moth on the screen.

I made use of the sun and laid out while I studied Mental Health.

It smelled like something was burning and thought a neighbor was cooking outside or something.
Once I went out for my walk, I noticed the sky was hazy.
I guess some of the wildfires are blowing smoke our way.

mom, notice I'm wearing the new shirt you got me =)

once I realized the smoke was bad for me =(

It's hard to tell in these picture, but it was gray.

I went to the Mental Health review at 4 and went directly to Sushi Love afterwards.
It was half off tonight.

mine is the plain veggie one in the front

I didn't have lunch today, so my head was bigger than my stomach.
I did not finish even half of my main meal.

I went to the grocery (store) to pick up some random items...like toothpaste and conditioner for my hair.
I also needed some Dr. Peppers.

Here I am in bed about to pass out.
I need to finish up some Mental Health reading before I sleep.
12 hour shift in the morning!
