Christmas Evening
Lance and I decided to exchange our gifts. I got him a Blu-Ray player and The Hangover II. He got me 3 books and a calendar.
Monday 12/26
My mother had a Sake Hibachi gift card burning a hole in her pocket, so we decided to have lunch there. I've been on a sushi kick since I finally got up the guts to try crab meat.
Lance and I went for a run that afternoon. We ran right to the liquor store to see if they had bombshell blondes. It seems a little ironic to go for a run...to the liquor store. It ended up being closed and that was probably for the best.
We finally busted out the Wii game version of Jeopardy. It was a lot of fun, but I'm quickly realizing that Lance and I are very competitive.
Tuesday 12/27
I joined Lance at his mother's house for their Christmas get together. We had snacks and opened gifts. It was nice to see his mother again and I was happy to meet his other sister, aunt, and niece.
Lance found a place that served the bombshell blondes on the internet and we decided to try the place out. It was in a shady part of town and I wasn't too sure about it. We walked in and I immediately saw two people I knew. It was low key complete with a jukebox, pool table, darts, and washers on the back patio. I got to catch up with a guy I used to work with, Brandon, and the bartender is my cousin's boyfriend. The place was full of regulars.
Wednesday 12/28
We had decided the night before to go to Six Flags.
Lance sported one of the shirts I got him for his birthday.
We got a mug that you could get free refills all day long of hot chocolate and coffee.
We rode a lot of rides that were favorites of my childhood.
It wasn't too cold either.
Thursday 12/29
I had dinner with Lindsay at one of our favorite Hibachi places that is close to her house. We were there 15 minutes and I got a tap on my shoulder. My cousin, Stacey, was there with 2 of her kids and 4 others. They were having a girls night and I was shocked by the coincidence of them being there at the same time.
Friday 12/30
My anniversary present arrived early and Lance decided to go ahead and give it to me.
I felt like such an idiot when he asked me which vase I liked the best. I answered the one of the left not even seeing the engraving on the one on the right. Oops!
Of course, I love the one with the engraving best.
Saturday 12/31
For some stupid reason Lance answered "yes" when his Dad asked us to do a New Years Eve run over a week before. After getting up after noon each day, 7:30 AM came way TOO soon!
It was freezing outside. I was shivering and complaining. haha
It was a 5 mile run, but we cut it short to 3.
We were the first ones done (because we cut it short) so we decided to have a photo shoot in the park.
The guy who hosted the race had us all over afterwards for food and drinks. I passed on the alcohol knowing I had a long night ahead of me.
The guy's house was full of trinkets and a lot of fun stuff.
The walls in the bathroom were magnetized and he had magnetic poetry.
This was the fridge:

and the bookshelves in the living room:
I got back home around noon and tried to sleep from 2 until 5. I think I just rolled around. I could not sleep, but I was exhausted.
We headed to Dallas with Melody and Brian around 8:45.
The Omni hotel had a countdown on the side of the building.
We checked in and about that time Melody's shoe split open.
Once I got to the room and changed into my dress, the loop above the zipper had broken. I needed to fix it.
We all went down to the lobby store and bought a sewing kit, safety pins, and super glue. Melody glued her shoe while Lance and I were in the bathroom trying to sew a new loop. He really was my hero that night. I don't know what I would have done if we couldn't fix it.
Here we are after it was fixed. Notice the sewing kit in his left hand.
Here is a group shot
and here we are again...one year later
The club we were going to was only an 8 minute walk, but Melody insisted we take a taxi. We all got in and less than 3 minutes later our driver had rear ended the car in front of us. We debated getting out, actually got out, and then got back in. $17 later we weren't there yet and we were stuck in traffic; we got out and walked the rest of the way.
We made our way into the club and enjoyed the night.
At the stroke of midnight, it was our one year anniversary. It was at that exact time one year ago that he asked me to be his girlfriend.
We left the club around 1 and came back to the hotel. The Sigma Chis were staying at our hotel so we met up with Brian's brother and more of their friends. We went down to the lobby for a while and hung out. We all fell asleep around 4.
Sunday 1/1
We got up and checked out of the hotel.
We had been on the 32nd floor.
We lounged around the rest of the day.
National Hangover Day
Monday 1/2
My mother and I had lunch at Thai House and we were the first customers of the year so we got a free dessert.
I presented Lance with my anniversary gift to him: monogrammed cufflinks.
He had a paper that was due the 4th and I lounged around and read some school stuff while he worked on it. I also started reading The Hunger Games (one of the books he got me for Christmas).
Between the 4th and the 7th is kind of a blur. There was a lot of relaxing going on.
We did go see The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and I was so glad Lance liked it because I had to basically drag him to the theater.
Saturday 1/7
I got up early Saturday and got ready for the FCS championship game.
Lance's Alma Mater (Sam Houston State) was in the game and we snagged some tickets from a Sigma Chi on New Years Eve. They were 6th row seats!
My mother's good friend Jane allowed us all to stay at her house because she lived 4 miles away from the stadium in Frisco.
We made it to Jane's around 10:30 and started pre gaming.
We got to the tailgate around 11 and Lance got to meet up and see a bunch of his brothers.
Sam Houston State ended up losing, but we had a great time none the less.
Jane and my Mom picked us up from the game and dropped us off at a sports bar to meet up with Lance's buddy, Danny. The bar was too crowded so we went to Gloria's. It's a Mexican food place that does drinks. We got to watch the Texans game and catch up. Around 8, my Mom and Jane picked us up and we went back to the house where we continued to drink and order tons of food. We all went to sleep after SNL.
Sunday 1/8
We woke up around 10 and headed back to Arlington. I had a lunch date with Katie at noon. We met at Cheddars and had our usual meal.
On a whim, Lance and I decided to go to Fossil Rim in Glen Rose. It is just about an hour drive from Arlington. Lance had never been to a wildlife park and he was pretty excited about it.
Monday 1/10
I spent a lot of time at home lounging around and hanging out with my parents. It was starting to sink in that this was my last day.
Alley is really going to miss me...
I went over to Lance's to help him pack after I finished packing myself. He was heading back to Houston the next day. I cried on my drive over there. How did 3 and half weeks go by so quickly?
Tuesday 1/12
My alarm was set for 7:30 AM. I said my goodbyes to Lance and had breakfast with my parents. My eyes were too dry to let out any tears...it was probably for the best.
I boarded my plane and was headed back to NC.
It is a lot easier knowing I'll be done in 4 months. It makes it a lot more bearable to leave.
I wasn't surprised to see so many Duke sweatshirts on sad looking college students. Winter break is over and we all looked so pitiful.
Stesha picked me up along with her roommate and we set out to pick up a free TV at a girl's house who just graduated. The TV is ginormous and it took 4 people to get in into the car. We 3 had dinner at Olive Garden and then headed back to Durham.
I made it home, unpacked, and collapsed onto my bed.
It felt a little good to be alone and on my own schedule.
Relaxed.
Back to reality tomorrow: Gero Boot Camp!
