It's that time of the year again

Yesterday I ran about half the total distance I covered.
I noticed someone in the city decided to chop back some pretty bushes.
Why they did this in the middle of the season is beyond me. It looks horrible and I know a couple of cardinals lived in those bushes.

I've been increasing my intake of fruits and vegetables.
I had a snack of tomatoes after my run.
I'm not normally a tomato person, but this is the only way I'll eat them: by themselves with salt and pepper.

For dinner I made some baked squash and zucchini.

On the school front I barely did anything yesterday.
After my run I began to feel a little ill.
I stayed in bed all day and only managed to take my Pharm ATI test.

Today was a different story.
I planned on getting my run out of the way...but it was storming.
Instead, I watched my Standard Patient DVD and wrote my reflection on it.
I used way too many "ums".

Following that, I wrote my Adult Health Clinical Reflection paper #2.
I was on a roll and went with it. I then finished my second Mental Health ATI exam.
I needed to stop by Office Depot to buy a folder to put my Standardized Patient Assignment in. I also needed some blank CDs. I browsed a little too long and ended up getting some pens and highlighters. If you spend over $15 dollars you get a free backpack and lunchbox. So now I'm a proud owner of a hot pink backpack that won't even hold one notebook. It's the smallest thing I've ever seen.
I was starving by this time...so I went to Subway.
I brought it back and watched some Ally McBeal. It's sad, but I'm now on the 6th episode of the 2nd season.

The storm settled and I went out for a run.
The weather was cool (upper 70s), but it was icky and humid.

I planned on finishing up my Family Assessment assignment tonight. I worked on it earlier today.
BUT at the moment, there are quite a few good TV things calling my name.
There is a new True Blood, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and Big Brother on tonight.

AND

IT'S THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN!!!

SHARK WEEK HAS BEGUN!

good things happen

I wanted more than anything to hit the snooze button and never get back up again.
I got up anyway.

There were interviewees wandering around the nursing building all day today. I felt their pain, but boy did it feel good to not be one of them. I was one hot mess walking through those doors a year ago.
Then again, I was a hot mess walking in today. NC broke 100 degrees today!
Back home they are on day 28 of breaking 100 degrees.

Our Community Health teacher is out of town so we did not have class.
Getting out at 2 in the afternoon never felt so good.
We celebrated by working on our community health assignment.
Stesha and I got to work and finished it all!
We received our Mental Health grades...and would you believe I aced it?
I DID!
I am so happy right now.

We celebrated at dinner.
We went to Sushi Love and I had lettuce wraps.
They were amazing.

The night ended by the pool.

I forgot to mention I received a card in the mail today from my parents!
I got a starbucks gift card to get me through the next 2 weeks.
It was also a sweet reminder that Shark Week begins the 31st.

I'm off to watch some Ally McBeal =)

Nursing Diagnosis: knowledge deficit

Yesterday was my last day to study for my Pharm exam.
The thing is, Wednesdays are my 12 hour clinical days.
I made sure to bring my notes for when I had down time.

freaking out mid-day

By the time I was off at 7, I needed a little energy booster.
Studying at Stesha's
I stayed over at Stesha's until around 11.
I made my way home and stayed up way too late talking on the phone.
I was able to catch up with one of my friends, Caroline. She is finishing up her last year of Pharmacy school doing rotations. I also had time to catch up with Lance.
It's amazing all the time you can find to NOT study.

3 and half hours later I woke up early to get to Starbucks.
I pulled up and walked to the door..and wouldn't you know...the door was locked and the lights were off. There was a man outside sitting down at a table and he told me that no one had shown up to open it up. So I walked two suites down to Bruegger's Bagels. I ran into two classmates and said hi. Nicole informed me that they were out of bagels. Starbucks isn't open and a bagel shop doesn't have bagels! What is this world coming to?
Lucky for me, I only needed coffee.
I grabbed my cup and drove to school.
I caught another pretty sunrise.

My pharm exam began promptly at 8.
I finished that up and then studied the next 3 hours for my mental health exam that was at noon. I had only spent less than an hour looking at the material before this morning. The good thing about mental health is that it tests on big overall concepts....not strict memorization of drugs like Pharm.

It's all over and now I have a weekend FULL of other stuff I need to get done.
Goodnight moon.

Sunshine and healthy stuff

I am beginning to freak out a little bit with all the school stuff that is going on and coming up.
I started my day out like I do any other weekend day. I had breakfast and then went for a walk.
It was sunny and there were no storm clouds in sight!

I finally made it up to the grocery store. I had been planning on going all weekend...
I picked up a bunch of healthier food that I hope to eat.
I'm making more of an effort this week.

After all that, I began to study some more pharm. ugh
Having two tests on the same day should be illegal. wah!

Knowing myself...I know I'm going to freak out until the test is actually over. Then I will be okay.
I have a long list of things to do this weekend. All of the projects and loose ends that I've been putting off all semester are finally nearing their due date. Yikes! Its all building up.
Good news though: It will all be over with in 19 days! =)

I'm off to bed. My crazy week begins tomorrow morning at 5:30 AM.

When Disaster Strikes

To start off on a happy note: I found "Frogger" here outside my window last night.

I started my day off basking in the beautiful sun.
I got to use my new pool to cool off.

The sun was out and it wasn't too hot [not 100 ;) ], so I went for a run.
I planned on walking, but for some reason I felt like running.

I did take some walking breaks.
At my half-way point I turned around to see this craziness:

UH OH!

All of the thunder and lightening scared the crap out of me. I've been caught in storms before, but not like this. I freaked out...and ran FASTER!
...and then all hell broke loose

...and then the power went out
oh great

After sitting on my butt for a couple of minutes (and showering in the dark), I headed out to get some food.

I got to check out the crime scene.

None of the food places around me had any power. I drove north of here until I noticed the stop lights were working...I figured the places around there had power. I pulled in and grabbed some food and headed back home.
I was wishing everything would be fixed by the time I came back.
No such luck. =(
I did see a Duke Energy truck drive by...a good sign!

It is now 3 hours later and I am happy to say I have power back.
I love electricity.

I got a pool!

I fell asleep to Ally McBeal last night.

Alley watching Ally

From the moment I woke up this morning I have been studying Pharm. It was so hot out that I finally went to the store and bought a pool.

By the time I set it up and got in, the sun was almost down. I planned on sitting in it and studying more, but I decided to get in the bathtub.

First thing tomorrow, I plan on hopping in this thing and catching some rays.
Bye bye heat!

It's a scorcher

Update time!

I got just about 8 hours of sleep Tuesday night. I was all rested up for a 12 hour day on Wednesday.
I didn't need Starbucks until 4 pm.
This is when I realized that if you purchase a drink in the morning and come back before 2 pm, you get another drink for $2. They are bribing me to become addicted to caffeine. How dare they!

Thursday's Pharm class did not meet (we get to watch the lecture online). I did not have to be at school until 12:15. Good things are happening right? hmmm
5 minutes into the Mental Health lecture, we all started to smell something funky. It smelled like a gas leak of some sort. The teacher and some others were getting a headache...and it just didn't seem safe.
We walked over to the building next door to squeeze into a classroom that wasn't meant for 80 something students. Some sat on the floor. The professor gave us the option to leave and she would post it online. Most of us stayed. I had already gotten up, gotten ready, and driven up to school. I stayed. It was our professor's specialty and what she really enjoys: mood disorders. How could I walk out on that?

students crammed in
After class, Stesha and I did our windshield survey for our community assessment.
We drove over to Chapel Hill and made some observations.

We saw this on the way:

We spent about an hour driving around. We drove through UNC and I noticed a lot of cute shops and eating places. Chapel Hill is a nice place. I almost wished I lived there...except for the distance to school.

When I got home I took my second ATI practice test for Adult Health.
Then I began something that I kind of wish I hadn't...because now I'm addicted.
I played the first episode of Ally McBeal.
I'm hooked.
I'm currently on episode 6.
Save me.

I slept in per usual this morning.
I sat out and got some sun and then decided to go for a walk.
I know everyone has been talking about this "heat advisory" thing. I figured I'm from Texas and I can handle it.

This is normal Texas weather:

actually it's a bit cooler here.

5 minutes into my walk, a lady pulled over in her car to ask me if I was walking because I needed a ride or because I was exercising. I told her I was exercising and she looked at me like I was crazy. She told me she could give me a ride if I needed one. I couldn't help but laugh.
I did not see anybody else out today and people that drove by gave me some weird looks.

When I got home I had some lunch and watched more Ally McBeal.
I decided to be productive and bought 2 books for my Maternity class next semester.

The Maternity and Peds professors came to speak with us on Friday about next semester. We had a chance to put down our preferences for clinicals. I'm really hoping I get what I put. I chose the 12 hour shifts on Fridays with an 8 hour shift every-other Saturday or Sunday. I just can't bare having one of the other slots: 8 hour shift on Friday and then again on Sunday. Having Saturday and then Monday off every week is just a weird schedule. I would like 2 off in a row...pretty please. I should knock on wood. It's only a semester, right? One I'm looking forward to.

I was doing laundry tonight and for the first time this happened:

Alcohol wipes were found at the bottom of the washer.
It has now happened to me.
My CI warned me this could happen. He said you would start finding these thing everywhere.
Mission accomplished.
