So close to freedom

I started yesterday out with a 3 mile run followed by a walk.
I know it seems like all I blog about is studying and running/walking...but that is what my life has come to at this point.

which one of these is not like the other?

Fun Fact: Canadian Geese mate for life (notice there is a mother AND father with their babies in the pic of my last post)

I ran on my normal trail before I strayed and found a new path.
This is what I found:

By the time I returned home, my third text for next semester had arrived!
The seller left me a nice note:
I will pUrsue my dreams!
I spent the rest of the evening finishing up my study guide for Patho:

18 pages...size 10 font....

Alley then told me that was it for the night

good kitty

I awoke this morning and studied on the porch while soaking up some Vitamin D.
Once I got sick of Patho, I went for a walk!

the strangest weed I have seen in some time

I attempted to study again, but Alley wouldn't let me...so I watched a movie.

Stesha called and we decided to study Patho together. It always helps to discuss the pathophysiology of these disorders with someone else. She also brought RedBull <3

That is it for tonight.

My plan for tomorrow is to study N203 (Fundamentals) all day long.

Oh!
I forgot to mention that I was one of the ones chosen to go on the Honduras Mission trip next Spring. The trip is 2 weeks long and we go at the end of March-early April.
Honduras is located in Central America
It is the only mission trip that Duke offers and it is run by the medical school here. We will be traveling with med students, PA students..and I think some dental people are going too. It will be interesting. I will fill you guys in more when I find out more. We were given very limited information. All I know is we won't be able to shower and wash our hair on a daily basis, the country is hot, and we will be sleeping on blow-up mattresses in close quarters.
I CAN'T WAIT! (no sarcasm here)
I am willing to sacrifice my needs to help others who are MORE in need.
ahhhhh ...I really can't wait.

The only catch is...I have to keep my grades up. If they slip, we get kicked off the trip =(
I strive to make good grades... but when pressure is put on me...I might crack.

I guess I should add that this trip will fulfill my community health class requirement. We are all given the choice to work locally or globally. We start community health next semester and have it the following 2 after that.

wrapping up

Monday was spent finishing up the endocrine chapter in my Patho book.
I went for a run/walk and found some things.

a berry

a beetle

my finished review for the endocrine chapter

Monday was the last day of lecture. N201 ran a little longer than normal so we wouldn't need to come next week. That way we have until 1PM to study for the patho exam next Tuesday.
the list of things we found disturbing at our first clinical experience

The professors were especially perky in our last Patho lecture. Hey, we were too!
I could not believe I would never have to sit through another Patho lecture again.
We finished the endocrine lecture and then worked on a complex case. This made up person had just about everything wrong with them that we had learned this semester. Poor made up dude.
I stayed after class for our interviews for the global emersion stuff. I had originally planned on staying local, but they opened up a trip to Honduras. I was interested so I had an interview. There are 8 of us that want a spot and there are only 4 slots.  We'll see what happens.

Stesha and I walked over to West Campus to get our bracelets for LDOC 2011. LDOC= Last Day of Classes
I also picked up a T-shirt. I should have taken a pic of it.

I went straight to the grocery store to get some food to last me until I head home next week.
I unloaded and hit the trail.
Another run/walk.

the application shut off at one point..but I was out there for an hour

I had planned on starting a new chapter of Patho, but it was already 9 PM. I submitted my stats final and finished up my last Theoretical Assignment. I then submitted my polished philosophy statement for N201. I have now submitted all my work for the semester. I just need to take 2 finals and I'll be done.

Wednesday (officially the last day of classes) we had to take our ATI exam for fundamentals.
I was ready:

my sweet bracelet

saw this dude on the way to class

The great thing about the exam is it was only an hour long. We got to look at our first two exams to brush up a bit for the final. It was only 10 AM and they were giving out breakfast on the main quad as part of LDOC. We scooted on over there and got some.

setting up for the Ludacris concert

my breakfast

breakfast is served

LDOC is a whole day's worth of activities. I needed to get some things done so I came home.
I went for a jog/walk.
It was so nice and sunny...and then I got dumped on. The clouds rolled over and it was thundering pretty loud. I ran home in a downpour.

Monday night I had ordered my books for next semester on Amazon. I received the first two thanks to prime 2 day free shipping!

I had originally planned on going to the Ludacris concert, but I was extremely tired. It was also 1000 degrees outside and did I mention raining?

I slept in this morning and then did 4 straight hours of Patho. It might have been a new record...haha.
I then went for a stroll and found some baby geese!

someone bagged their dog's poo, but left it...pointless

once again the application shut off and this should say an hour

After my stroll, I cleaned my townhouse from top to bottom. It took me a little over 3 hours and I am worn out.
No more clutter.

Hoppy Easter

Thursday was our last day of lab for the semester. We were split into groups and were given a diet we had to construct for a hypothetical patient. My group's patient needed a renal diet. It wasn't all that easy. If it was low in sodium, it would be high in potassium. It was hard to win this fight. All I know is I hope I never have kidney failure. It's a horrid diet.
The second half of lab we had to either be the patient or the nurse and then switch off. There was a script the patient had to follow while the nurse assessed the right body parts. I did pretty well.

Friday was my last day of clinical for the semester.
See below.

It was only a half day.
Part of my clinical group and I went to celebrate at Rick's Diner.
I couldn't decide if I wanted breakfast for lunch or just a normal lunch.
I chose lunch. The food was mediocre and I wish I had gone with breakfast.

There just so happened to be a froyo place next door. I popped my head in and saw that they had cake flavor...and peanut butter. I filled up a cup and went to pay. I was shocked when the total came to $1.51
This is by far the CHEAPEST frozen yogurt I have ever found.

Right after lunch, Stesha and I went to go see Water For Elephants at the movies.
Stop what you are doing right now and go see it. It was a great story and the cinematography was amazing.
The man (Christoph Waltz) who plays the antagonist in this movie is quickly becoming one of my favorite actors. After seeing him in Inglourious Basterds as Col Hans Landa, I wanted more...and this movie delivered. He plays mean all too well.

The rest of the evening I listened to the rain fall while I relaxed.

Saturday I went for a nice run.
I am really liking the trail I've been going on.

Dinner was at Sweet Tomatoes. The closest one is in Cary, so it was a bit of a drive.

Happy Easter

This morning I had to be up at school to meet with my group for an assignment.
School on Sunday...ewww.

Jason's Deli was calling our name for lunch, but it was closed because it is Easter.
Panera was open...so we enjoyed the food there instead.

At 3:30 Stesha and I met up with Kit who had extra tickets for the Men's ACC Lacrosse game.
Duke vs. Maryland

Me, Stesha, and Kit

Kit's boyfriend in college played for Maryland. She knew a lot of facts and rules about LAX and I got to learn quite a bit.
The sun was out and it made for a pretty day.
90 degrees =)
Time for a Sprite!

Duke ended up losing, but I had a great time.
Watching lacrosse made me miss Lance =(
Good news!
The semester is wrapping up and I'll be home so SOON!

I came home after the game and went for a jog/walk.

I felt like I was in the Shire.
Has anyone seen Frodo?
