Second Day of Nursing School...and the weekend

Yesterday was my second day of nursing school.

there is still "snow" on the ground

Our IDs were ready for us. I picked mine up during a break.

In Assessment, we got to meet our second lecture professor. We had a four hour class to get through, and he made it very entertaining. He informed us that we would have a 10 minute break at the end of each hour and he needed someone to be the time keeper. He advised setting an alarm to alert us when it was break time.
The class is deep in a discussion and all of a sudden at 50 minutes past the hour, we all hear a dog barking. It made me giggle a bit. The time keeper had set their iphone to "bark" every time we had a break.
Believe it or not, the time went by pretty quickly.
We were originally going to be let out at noon, but we had an orientation to make up from 1-4.
I grabbed lunch at the Cafe DUSON once again. I had another ham and swiss, but I paired it with the tomato basil soup. I'm falling in love with their food selection.

I sat at a table with 3 different girls to eat. 3 new personalities to interact with.
After we were done eating, one of the girls mentioned she needed to return a book to the medical book store. She didn't really want to go and almost put off doing it. I asked her if she wanted me to come with her because no one wants to get up and walk off by themselves. She took me up on the offer and we got to know each other a bit better on our "adventure" to the book store.
By the time we were back in the nursing building (and FREEZING), it was time for orientation part 2.

The stats we were given on the incoming class were very informative. The age range is 21-48 and we have a class of 93 students. This is by far THE largest cohort Duke School of Nursing has ever had. We were meant to have a class of 65...I believe. The number of applicants for the upcoming fall was twice the amount our cohort has.

We were given our portfolios that we will keep throughout the program and use in the future to get a job.
After another 3 hours, we were done for the day!
The weekend.
Yes.

I came home and updated my calendar.
I'm pretty sure I have everything filled in that I need to get done this semester.
Ladies and gentlemen, my schedule:

The parents and I went out to dinner once I was done updating everything.

After dinner, we took a detour by the Duke Chapel.

Around 10, a couple of my classmates met up at Fullsteam Brewery. It is located in the Warehouse district in downtown Durham.
Creamy Ale

There was a live band that I really enjoyed.

One of the girls and her boyfriend brought their dog, Bear (dogs are welcome at Fullsteam).

Bear needed to be taken home, so we all headed to their loft.

I continued to play with Bear =)

okay, I played with the cat too

Next, we headed to a bar in downtown called James Joyce I believe.
Everyplace seems to be very laid back and I like it. We spent the rest of the night here and another one of my classmates showed up. A good time was had by all and I really enjoyed getting to know my classmates outside of the classroom.

At one point, I realized there were books propped up for decoration in the bar. We decided to get them down and "read" them.

A very tired Rachel made her way back home....and spent several more hours up talking to the boyfriend =)

I stayed up way too late and still managed to get up way too early to head up to school.

But before I did, I checked on my flowers (which are blooming beautifully).

I met with my partner to go over our health history...which is our first due assignment.
We couldn't gain access to the nursing building, so we headed over to the library.

the walk to the library

After a couple of giggly hours, we were finished.
I headed home and went out to lunch with my folks.
We decided upon Rockfish (the only one outside of Texas) and watched the Duke vs. Virginia game there. We won by 16 points!!! woohoo

Rockfish is located at SouthPoint mall (the same mall we went to a couple of days ago).
They had some interesting statues....and by interesting I mean there was water leaking out of the little girl's foot.

My Dad and I made it up to the University Store...which was a bit crowded. The game had just let out and I guess everyone feels the need to rush over and buy more Duke gear. I purchased a binder and some paper for class. My Dad purchased a hat for my Grandmother.

a place to eat in the Bryan Center(where the university store is located)

When we left the Bryan Center, the sun was hitting the Chapel at just the right angle.

I am running on empty and I'm about to pass out.
My parents leave tomorrow and then I'm sure I will get a big slap in the face from the real world.

Here are some updated pics on things that have entered my living quarters:

Today is a day that will go down in history books.
Why?
Because one of my best friends got engaged!
Congratulations Trinity & Chelsie!
I wish I hadn't missed it and could be back in Arlington to celebrate.
